Sweet dreams in all of our beds...

Nothing is more important to us than a good night's sleep for our guests, so we have gone to great lengths to ensure that we have the absolute best beds available, with luxurious cotton sheets, down filled mattress toppers, feather and down pillows, and individual comforters, in a quiet peaceful environment, where no two rooms have adjoining walls.  Lights out - time for a restful, carefree sleep!

In the Bathroom...

Wonderful white cotten bathrobes, and our own selected toiletries -  shampoo/bodywash, conditioner, hand made soaps, all made from natural ingredients, made especially for Maison de la Mer.  Of course, we provide plenty of towels and each of our bathrooms has a walk in shower, hairdryer, makeup mirror, and amenities.

Allow yourself the luxury of time in a private and peaceful setting at Maison de la Mer - an historic home, located on the waterfront in the heart of historic Akaroa village, with commanding views over Akaroa harbour, beach and surrounding hilltops.  Feel surrounded by the elegance, romance and attention to luxurious details.  Savour a gourmet breakfast overlooking the harbour scene in a French Country style home with fine art, antiques, Persian carpets, fine china, crisp linens and abundant fresh flowers.

While we do not have a minimum stay requirement, listening to feedback from our guests, we recommend that you consider a minimum two night stay in Akaroa, so that you have time to enjoy the wide range of sights, activities and restaurants.

Each suite has its own unique personal charm and character and shares the same level of comfort and guest services.  We start with the best possible beds, firm structure with soft pillow tops, and feather underlays to ensure you the very best sleep experience.  Only the finest linens are used, along with plenty of feather pillows, duvets and quilts.

Bathrooms are contemporary, with modern fixtures, walk in showers, hand made custom toiletries, lots of fluffy cotton towels, heated towel rails, and personal bathrobes.  The Provence Suite also has a spa bath.

There is complimentary Port, chocolates, a selection of teas, freshly ground coffee, and Carol's homemade Ricciarelli cookies, as well as a complimentary mini bar with chilled wine, beer and mineral water.  All suites have Television, DVD, and music, with an in house selection of CD's and DVD Movies.  Complimentary wireless internet, and a guest computer are available for exclusive use by guests.

The Boathouse

  Our premier suite is set apart from the main house, is larger and has a small kitchen - ideal for longer stays.  The theme is nautical with models, paintings, prints and books about the sailor's world.

Relax in the King size bed and,  without lifting your head from the pillow, look out over the harbour through the large round, porthole style window.  A comfortable seating area with sofa and chairs completes the picture.  Year round comfort is looked after by a heat pump to centrally heat and air condition as required.  The small kitchen has a refrigerator, sink, microwave oven, china and cutlery.  Outside, you have a private deck, with Adirondack chairs to look out over the gardens and harbour scene.

Provence Suite

Feel the magic of Provence in New Zealand’s renowned French village. Broad harbour and beach views from this delightful room.  The antique Queen French bed is from the period of the French settlers, and comes from Nantes, from where they set sail to New Zealand.   Fresh white cotton linens, and mounds of feather pillows and duvet adorn the bed and reading lights, central heating, flat screen television with DVD and in house movie library, and soft music to soothe the soul.  Antique French furnishings fresh flowers and original art complete this gorgeous room.  The Provence Suite also has a large bath and a separate shower stall.

Fleur de Lys Suite

Like a trip to France with French antiques and collectibles. Sumptuous King bed with fresh white cotton linens, feather duvet and pillows, Marcella cover, and Velvet feather comforter, lots of pillows, reading lights, central heating, flat screen television with DVD and in house movie library.  The Fleur de Lys suite has an attached sunroom with a beautiful chaise longue day bed, ideal for reading or harbour watching, or also can be converted (King Single size) for twin or triple occupancy.  The ensuite bathroom has all the amenities - bathrobes, heated towel rails, shower stall, all tastefully done.

La Petite Chambre

Our newest room, La Petite Chambre is now open and offers all the luxury and features of our other rooms in a smaller, yet charming package with limited harbour views and excellent views of the surrounding volcanic mountains at a more modest price.  Rest assured that this room exudes all the style and comfort of Maison de la Mer.  Ensuite bathroom, Complimentary Port and Chocolates, Mineral Water and a selection of Teas and Coffee.  Bathrobes and fluffy towels with our own special line of bathroom toiletries.  Flat screen TV, DVD and Movies.  A very special place!
