Walks in AkaroaAkaroa WalksAkaroa is blessed with a wealth of walks around the harbour and in the surrounding hills and bays. Literally from the foot of the driveway at Maison de la Mer, you can choose a selection of walks from easy and flat to more challenging and steep. Day walks vary in terms of length from an hour or so to seven hours, with some offering spectacular views of the Akaroa harbour on one side, and the Pacific Ocean on the other. For the history buffs, there is an historical guided tour of the old French village which is well worth taking. Each walk has an established track, and we have small printed map guides for you choose and take along with you. Some of the walks are across hilly farmland, while others cut through unique virgin bush, alive with native birds and flora. Hinewai Reserve is extra special and is worth a special trip to see untouched forest, alive with birdsong, the sound of waterfalls and the smells of the forest floor.
